About the gardens
CGSC Panorama

The Community Gardens of Santa Clarita is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization for public benefit that is run entirely by volunteers.  Established in 2010, the Community Gardens of Santa Clarita was started through the efforts of the Garden Club of Santa Clarita with the support of the City of Santa Clarita with the mission to provide a place where an individual, through nominal contribution and volunteer participation, could employ organic gardening practices in order to grow vegetables, herbs and flowers by stewarding either a 10’x10′ or 10’x20′ plot.

Over the years, the Gardens have grown to eighty 10’x10′ and 10’x20′ plots.  The Gardens have also added five universal access boxes, two native butterfly gardens, two California native gardens, an orchard, an herb garden, a large composting area, a children’s garden, a garden shed, a greenhouse, an off the grid solar powered system, a free library stand, our Friends of the Garden arbor benches, a milkweed aviary and our pergola seating area. We have community programs, adult education classes as well as dedicated plots for the Santa Clarita Food Pantry.   We welcome groups such as Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts as projects become available.

The Community Gardens are overseen by a volunteer Executive Council, elected each December at the organization’s Annual Meeting.  Our current Executive Council Members are:

President:  Sandy Stevens
Vice-President:  Adriana Leinbock
Secretary: Kathy Phillips
Treasurer: Debra Jorgensen

committees

The Community Gardens consists of committees that manage the general gardens. Most committee chairs work 15 plus hours per year and committee members work about 12 plus hours a year. We encourage gardeners to participate on a committee. It is a great education tool, an opportunity to meet other gardeners as well as a way to earn volunteer hours for the year. The current CGSC committees are:

  • Adult Education
  • Compost
  • Landscaping
  • Outreach
  • Special Events
